sides1.jpg (35744 bytes) This is my first attemp at bending sides. After a couple of further attempts, I'm still no good at this. I've changed my setup to include both a 3" pipe and a 1" pipe which is working better, but not really satisfactory.

I'd gladly pay for pre-bent sides if they were available.

Once the sides are bent, they go into this jig for glueing. The lantern serves no useful purpose... bodyjig.jpg (23360 bytes)
wpe1.gif (60052 bytes) This picture show my first attempt at sides in the glueing jig. I've ordered new sides to try to do a better job, but I think this set will be passable if I can't do better.
Yes, I'm also a drummer. This picture shows the sides I've bent, and the scroll piece ready for me to glue them together after a bit of trimming. All of these pieces fit into the jig shown above, and with any luck, will join up with the top and bottom to form the body of Steve's Mandolin - Opus 1.

sides5 (36568 bytes) This view shows the sides after removal from the glueing jig. You'll notice that the quality of this picture isn't quite up to the others. My daughter got a free digital camera with the laptop we bought her for graduation. This is one of the first images we took with it. The convenience of not having to develop film and scan it may make me settle for this level of quality.

My next set of sides will be better though...
